War on after prop 8

At a rally on the radical right-wing National Organization for Marriage's summer tour, the Courage Campaign's "NOM Tour Tracker" caught one attendee holding this sign:

Yes, those are two nooses. It's sickening – but we're seeing even more of this type of hatred now, as right-wing groups use last week's Prop. 8 victory to further their cause.

And it's not just signs at rallies: the radical right is now using the court ruling to justify a national ban on same-sex couples marrying – even in states where they already can! It's a cynical ploy to turn out voters in support of rabidly anti-equality candidates, like the one in Minnesota with ties to a group that condoned executing gay people.

We're carrying out an aggressive plan to defeat them on the ground and on the airwaves – but with only hours to go, we still haven't heard from you.

Now is the moment, with LGBT rights hanging in the balance, to join the HRC team. And because it's so important, we're offering a special two-year membership for first-time donors.

Deadline tonight! Click here to become a member, effective immediately – and we'll extend your membership for two years!

National Organization for Marriage (NOM) President Brian Brown has made it clear – they view November's elections as their big chance to bring progress on marriage equality to an abrupt halt.

"If the Supreme Court fails to act to protect our right to vote for marriage, Congress will have to step in with some kind of amendment."

To lay the groundwork, far-right groups like NOM have already gotten a resolution introduced in Congress to officially denounce the decision. They're using the court case to rile up their activists for the election in any way they can.

But we have the power to stop them. We've already shown NOM a glimpse of what our grassroots strength can do.

We helped turn out activists to pro-equality rallies organized by local allies and groups like the Courage Campaign along NOM's hateful bus tour. And more than 100,000 of you raised your voices and called on Target to make it right after they donated to support Minnesota's extreme right-wing candidate for Governor. But to win across the country in November, we need to mobilize even more grassroots power – starting right now. Your support will:

Fund full-time grassroots organizers;
Support door-to-door canvassing programs and phone banks;
Turn out volunteers for campaigns and against any hateful ballot measures that arise;
Run hard-hitting ads; and
Fight right-wing smears in the media.

There's not a lot of time to put these pieces in place. Election Day is less than three months from now – and if we lose pro-equality seats in Congress and at the state level in November, anti-gay extremists will have their chance to undo much of our progress.

The deadline is midnight tonight – can you pitch in?
